Cost Recovery
- The majority of the PPSC’s costs are covered by appropriations. However, the PPSC uses a hybrid funding system for the prosecution of offences under regulatory statutes, which allows the PPSC to recover costs for prosecuting offences from other government departments and agencies whose minister is responsible for the regulatory legislation under which the offence is governed.
- In 2019-2020, the PPSC has authority to recover up to $22.7M.
- MOUs entered into with OGDs make it clear, as does the PPSC Deskbook, that the fact that a government organization is paying the cost of a prosecution does not allow it to interfere with the exercise of prosecutorial discretion.
