Greening Government Operations

Green Procurement:

The PPSC is focusing on four prospective areas for greening its procurement to reduce the environment impact on purchases: office supplies, office equipment and furniture.

Expected result: Environmentally responsible acquisition, use and disposal of goods and services.

  • Implementation of the Policy on Green Procurement (e.g., train acquisition card holder on green procurement; review and update internal contracting templates to ensure that current environmental considerations are included).

Expected result: Copy paper and envelope purchases will contain a minimum of 30% recycled content and be certified to a recognized environmental standard.

  • Copy paper, commercial printing and envelope purchases that meet the target objective as a percentage of total dollar value of all copy paper and envelope purchases, in the year in question.

Expected result: Implementation of a standard for all new leased multi-functional devices/copiers to incorporate energy-efficient criteria.

  • Percentage of leases and purchases of energy-efficient devices, using the PWGSC procurement vehicle relative to the total number purchased.

Expected result: Increased percentage of office furniture purchases will include criteria to reduce the environmental impact associated with the acquisition of furniture.

  • Percentage of office furniture purchases that meet the target objective as a percentage of total value of all office furniture purchases for the year in question.

Expected result: Leverage common use procurement instruments, where available and feasible.

  • Percentage of total purchases of computer workstations and laptops via the use of PWGSC consolidated procurement vehicles thereby reducing packaging, transportation and increasing green procurement measures already incorporated in the PWGSC procurement tools.

The PPSC is updating and adopting policies and practices to improve the sustainability of its workplace operations, as follows:
